This is excellent news for our students, staff and anyone thinking of studying with us as it shows that we are delivering on our mission to provide great teaching, facilities and overall student experience."

The scoring, which places the University joint eighth nationally and first among West Midlands universities for student satisfaction, has seen the University rise a further 15 places to 58th overall.

The University was highest climber in the rankings last year - largely as a result of improved graduate prospects and student satisfaction - and has continued its improvement.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Liz Barnes said: “This is excellent news for our students, staff and anyone thinking of studying with us as it shows that we are delivering on our mission to provide great teaching, facilities and overall student experience."

“Together with our performance in the Times and Sunday Times and Guardian League Tables, this positions us in the top half of the UK League Tables for the first time and we are determined to build upon this significant achievement while continuing to put our students first.”

President of the Students’ Union, Tash Crump commented: “We’re delighted to work alongside the University to provide a great experience for all our students and staff. Our students are a fantastic driver for change, and we’re immensely proud to be part of an organisation that both values and acts on the student voice. The whole of the Students' Union is thrilled to see this reflected in another substantial climb in this table and we're all very #ProudToBeStaffs.”

Universities are measured on a range of criteria which includes Entry Standards; Research Quality; Research Intensity; Student-Staff Ratio; Degree Completion; Academic Services Spend; and Student Facilities Spend. Staffordshire University has also ranked 2nd for Academic Services Spend in the West Midlands.

This year, West Midlands universities have improved their Graduate Prospects score which are largely above the national average. Five of Staffordshire University’s subject areas appeared in the top 10 for graduate prospects including English, Art and Design, Social Work, Communication and Media Studies and Music.

Dr Bernard Kingston, Chairman of TheCompleteUniversityGuide.co.uk, commented: “The evidence is clear; the increased emphasis, including funding, on employability and career planning within academic departments and student services is bearing fruit.

“Many institutions now have this as a core element of their strategic plans with the introduction of innovative programmes of subject-specific careers events focussed on embedding and signposting graduate destinations.”
