GradEx is the University’s showcase for final year students to share their research findings. This year’s Institute of Policing and Justice Grades conference saw our students present alongside academics and professionals within the field of policing. Students had the opportunity to present their research by an academic poster or a verbal presentation.
Some of our presenting students from the Policing and Criminal Investigations programme included:
- Maddie, presenting on student attitudes towards sex work
- Emily, presenting on post-charge procedures and sentencing of rape
- Magda, sharing her findings about sharenting and AI
- Holly, who looked at football crowd management
- Joanna, talking about police sexual misconduct
- Immy, who focused on gender stereotypes and online influences.
Here's what some of the students had to say about their experience:
“GradEx was an excellent opportunity to build connections with professionals in fields related to my future career. It also encouraged me to step outside my comfort zone, helping me develop my public speaking and presentation skills”
- Emily
“The gradex experience allowed me gain experience communicating with people in professional fields who have worked within my researched area. From the communications I was able to gain tips on how to get into that career after graduation and have conversations with people about their experiences. I have gained the skills of communication and being able to think on my feet to continue the conversation within football policing.”
- Holly
“Taking part in GradEx was a positive experience for me, especially as English is my second language. It gave me the opportunity to present my work to others and helped me build more confidence in myself. This is something I will take forward, as being able to communicate clearly is important for my future career.”
