In partnership with CECOS College London, we’re offering you the chance to top-up your existing qualification to a BA (Hons) in Business Management to forward your career.

This course will provide the opportunity to analyse and evaluate business organisations and to understand the way in which they operate. You will identify and analyse business problems and evaluate alternative solutions. This work is set against a background of the environment in which businesses operate. You will also develop a range of skills that will enable you to make a professional contribution in a variety of organisational roles. The degree aims to develop technically competent, broad based individuals who think and communicate effectively, can work independently and in teams. It develops your skills required to conduct inquiry, carry out problem-solving and undertake critical analysis. This course will provide you the opportunity to build upon your existing level 5 qualification in business and obtain an honours degree in one year.

Course content

Our Business Management degree prepares you for an exciting career in a fast-paced world, whether your ambitions lie in working for a multinational company or for yourself.

This course is a one year top-up degree for holders of a Business or Business Management HND/DipHE or equivalent home/overseas qualification.

All applicants are individually assessed on their qualifications, skills and experience.

This year-long course will build upon your existing knowledge of the main areas of business.

You'll learn how to apply problem solving and decision making to a range of business situations. Change management is a key part of all business today and we teach you about dealing with conflict and changing organisational cultures, to gain maximum effectiveness for the organisation. We also teach you economic principles and analytical skills, to make sure you know how to research markets, prepare reports and drive overall organisational success.

Just as the world of business is becoming more technologically adept, we make sure we are up-to-date in how we use technology to help you learn. Our courses use online learning platforms, interactive white boards, podcasts and social media, to make sure you leave with an awareness of all of the most hi-tech communication methods used in business.

Our teaching is informed by research, and modules change periodically to reflect developments in the discipline. We aim to ensure that all modules run as scheduled. Entry requirements

This award is available as a top-up for students who have normally completed an HNC/D Business Management, Foundation Degree Business Management (or related subject) or ILM Diploma. However, many students gain entry via ILM, supervisory NEBBS, IM Certificate, Graduate Certificate in Management Studies (GCMS), the also non-business qualifications such as HNC or HND in computing, HNC or HND in tourism and leisure etc. Additional study may be required for students with non-business specific entry qualifications.

Careers

This course offers a wide range of career options in general management and will also act as a solid basis for a higher level professional qualification like the Chartered Management Institute or the Institute of Leadership and Management. In recent years, graduates have entered marketing, human resource management, and operations management in the public and private sectors. Many have set up their own successful businesses.

Teaching and assessment

Teaching

You will be taught through a combination of lectures, seminars, workshops and laboratory practicals. Seminars enable you to discuss and develop your understanding of topics covered in lectures in smaller groups of. In addition, you will have timetabled meetings with your personal tutor. You will be taught in first-class learning spaces throughout your course.

Assessment

Your course will provide you with opportunities to test your understanding of your subject informally before you complete the formal assessments that count towards your final mark. Each module normally includes practice or ‘formative’ assessments, for which you receive feedback from your tutor. Practice assessments are developmental and any grades you receive for them do not count towards your module mark. There is a formal or ‘summative’ assessment at the end of each module. This includes a range of coursework assessments, such as essays, reports, portfolios, performance, presentations, final year, independent project and written examinations. The grades from formal assessments count towards your module mark.

Your course will provide you with opportunities to test your understanding of your subject informally before you complete the formal assessments. You will normally receive feedback on coursework assessments within 20 working days following the date of submission. Examination feedback may take a variety of formats. However, as a minimum, generic feedback will be made available to all students who take written examinations.

Fees

For the course starting on 20 September 2027, the tuition fees are:

UK and Channel Island students: This tuition fee is agreed subject to UK government policy and parliamentary regulation. If the UK government passes appropriate legislation, the fee for subsequent years of study may increase in each academic year. But this increase will not exceed the rate of inflation as measured by RPIX**. Any change in fees will apply to both new and continuing students. The University will notify students of any change as early as possible. Further information about fee changes would be posted on the University’s website once this becomes available.

**RPIX is a measure of inflation equivalent to all the items in the Retail Price Index (RPI) excluding mortgage interest payments.
