Once your degree has been awarded, we can only change the name on your student record or other University documents if it's related to a change of gender, or error in the recording of your name at the time you were studying.
This includes (but is not limited to):
- transcripts of qualifications
- copies of your degree certificate
- letters confirming degree/attendance
The details on your record and University documents are official, definitive statements of fact at the date of your award.
How do I request a name change?
If your name change is related to a change of gender, let us know by raising a request via Solve.
You will need to provide evidence to support your request. Accepted examples of supporting evidence include:
- a deed poll
- a declaration of name change document
- Current photo ID
If your name change is related to an error in the recording of your name, let us know by raising a request via Solve.
You will need to provide evidence to support your request. Supporting evidence required is:
- Current photo ID
- ID valid at the time of award
Once you have received confirmation that your award documents can be reissued, you will be asked to destroy the original copies.
Important note for International students
Your name must appear as it does on your passport and visa; if these documents do not correspond it may affect your right to remain in the UK.
