Life of a Staffordshire University London Student

Find out what Modie Badamasi, Year 2, BSc Computer Games Design with Animation (with a Placement Year) usually does as we take a glimpse into his typical day.

7:00AM – Rise and Shine

I usually kickstart my day with a breakfast – usually something light like toast or cereal. But before that, a quick check of my student email for campus updates and checking my lectures for today through Beacon. Also, I’ll end up doing some endless social media scrolling in bed.

7:30AM – The Morning Routine

Saint Espresso

I’ve just managed to catch the free Here East shuttle bus outside Stratford Westfield which conveniently takes me to The Yard – practically right outside Fabric Factory D which saves me walking too far. I have lectures starting from 9:00AM, so I need to quick caffeine fix from Saint Espresso to make sure I can really engage in the morning lectures and participate in discussions.

9:00AM – Lecture Mode

It’s now time to officially start the day. Almost immediately my lecturers begin with discussions based around my Computer Games Design with Animation course from last week – thankfully I’m prepared with notes which I typed up. Once the group discussions are finished, it’s time to buckle down and start my work.

12:30PM – A Visit to Reload Café

Fresh out of my lecture, both my classmates and my friend from Computer Science meet up in Reload Cafe where we play a lively game of pool (with a touch of friendly competition!) and FIFA on gaming consoles. Once winning (naturally) – me and my friends who haven’t eaten lunch decide we want to grab something from Canalside using our exclusive Here East student discount. On other days, we just grab something from Reload Café, which has a range of sandwiches as well as hot dogs.

1:00PM – Savoury Delights and Study Bites

We have multiple options on campus – with my favourite being a toss-up between Four Quarters, and Randy’s Wing Bar. I end up having Randy’s Wing Bar – which tastes all the better with a 10% discount.

2:00PM – Unleashing Creativity with Solo Study

After lunch with friends, I head back to campus to dive into some independent study. I’ve started applying theory from the classroom into a current build of my end of year. While fun – it can take some time to complete, so it’s important to take the time to perfect everything.

5:30PM – Recharging in Reload

I end up heading over to Reload Café once again for a small pick me up – nothing too major. I end up getting a double-shot macchiato and swing by the Student’s Union to pick up a flyer for an upcoming Movie Night hosted by the Movie Society. Once finished, I’m off to the Copperbox Arena for a quick gym session.

6:00PM – Powering Up with Energising Gym Sessions

It’s been a long day and working out is the perfect way to destress. The walk to the Copperbox Arena takes less than five minutes and offers the perk of a student discount. From there, it’s time to jump into some cardio and strength training.

7:30PM – Feast, Fun and Feline Flicks – Time to Unwind

It’s been a long day and I’m ready to head back to the student halls to enjoy a dinner fit for champions – no not beans on toast. Afterwards, it’s my own leisure time – whether it’s watching a TV show like Invincible or Rick and Morty, reading a book – like classic Catcher in the Rye, or even catching up on the latest trends on TikTok – most likely dancing cat videos. On other nights, we head into Shoreditch or Dalston for a night out with friends, some of our favourite clubs to go include XOYO and Dalston Superstore.

10:30PM - Bedtime

It’s been a great day but it’s time to call it a night – there’s plenty to do tomorrow!
