Course content

In the first year of your BSc (Hons) Data Science & Informatics course, you’ll be provided with the foundational knowledge and practical skills in computer science that will contextualise and enable the effective analysis and interpretation of data. You will also be introduced to the theoretical side of the Data Science & field, and be encouraged to critically evaluate, manage, apply and understand information from a variety of different platforms and sources. You will also start to use techniques in computer science to solve problems in relation to a number of different sectors.

During your second year, you will delve deeper into the Data Science & Informatics arena. You will be offered the knowledge you need and be asked to demonstrate your ability to add personal insights and strategies to solve substantive Data Science & Informatics related problems. You’ll also be given the opportunity to tailor your degree to a specific sector, providing a streamlined pathway to improve your graduation profile. As a result of your choice, you’ll be given a specialised set of modules in which you’ll develop solutions and strategies with a clear industry context. Research skills and practical application of Data Science & Informatics will be a large focus of the second year, as you start to practice the skills you will be using in your future career.

In the final year, you will culminate your studies by producing a working portfolio of applied Data Science & Informatics, while taking into consideration the industry relevant ethical, legal and sustainability of your specialist sector.
