How Clearing works

At Staffordshire University London, we do not believe that Clearing is for students that haven’t made the grade. To us, you are the generation that didn’t stop when the world closed, and Clearing is just another opportunity for us to discover your potential.

Some students leave their first decision until the end of the process, others didn’t get the grades they wanted on results day. Whatever the reason that you’re applying at a late stage, we don’t believe the process should be stressful or confusing. This is an exciting part of your life, and you have an important choice to make.

Here you’ll find frequently asked questions about clearing from students and parents – that also cover the new steps we’re taking in regard to the COVID-19 pandemic.

What is Clearing?

Clearing is just another name for the final admissions process of the academic year

What is the reason for using Clearing?

Clearing provides a second chance to find the right course if a student hasn’t received the grades they were hoping for, haven’t met conditions of previous offers, or if they have changed their mind from what they originally chose.

Is Clearing common?

Yes. Over 10% of students come through Clearing every year.

Are Clearing students treated differently?

No, Clearing offers are processed in a different way, but once an offer is made and accepted, students treated the same as someone who has accepted prior to the Clearing process.
